It's not new, and this is my favorite fantasy earth.
Mankind of all races and cultures moved from caves to living in man-made structures "on the surface" and have legends of ancient hidden cities underground because why wouldn't there be cities down there too? They are the same as us, aren't they? They couldn't be that simple to NOT have cities, right?
Then we all have different races that inhabit these lands together, it's like a collective homebrew D&D world, I love it!
