I think the term should be “displace” not replace. AI will alter the workforce not replace it. People will do something else. It’s like telling 20 field hands they won’t need to pull the plow any more because we are getting a mule! They’ll do something else.
That's not how it works. We can say that the world survived the change from the adoption of the combine harvester but we did it by killing all of those obsolete farm hands in WW1 and WW2. The dead unemployed made good soldiers.
What I mean to say is the unemployed were systemically slaughtered. The 1950s were good because the people replaced by machines weren't competing for jobs. They were dead.
There will be a similar culling soon. Russia vs Ukraine was just the start.
