What do young men in our society need from other men?     (Fatherhood)

So from the other poll, around 50% of goats have seriously considered or attempted suicide. This is unacceptable and I feel like we are failing the men and boys in our lives. What is the solution or what should we be thinking about as men?

Scouts? Clubs? Bowling leagues? I know even having a father in the household is a huge step forward.

What i didn't spend..      (DebtFree)

I would like a new car, but the old one runs fine. I want one of those blades you put on a weedwacker, a new shed, and a greenhouse. Instead of buying any of those, I put the money towards paying off my house.

If I spend $1000 on my mortgage, I save $500 in interest. This means for every dollar I spend on paying off my mortgage, I get an immediate 50% return, not to mention the years of my life back. Yes.

Pay off your cards, your mortgage, your cars. No need to spend what you don't already have. Plus... you already know who's favorite activity is loaning money...

What's the best way to glue shoes together?      (AskUpgoat)

I just got a pair of leather soled boots gone and the glue broke. Any recommendations? Also need some glue for some made in China trainers that are already splitting at the sole.

Are you guys "social"?     (whatever)

I went to a grad party at a relatives house and it dawns on me how incredibly unsociable I am. There was some serious money at that party and that had a little to do with it but, I really had no interest in speaking with any of the people there. It was like they are living their life on easy mode, bankers, Drs., lawyers, etc., while recreationally golfing and then I am living my life on hard mode. I still have a white collar job but I slaughter my own chickens, grow my own vegetables and chop my own firewood.

Am I missing something by going my own way?

Cigar Recommendations for a Casual Puffer      (AskUpgoat)

Looking for some online cigars as my local sin shop has bad hours and is hard to get to and they have a shitty selection anyhow. Any recommendations for a sampler pack of 6 or 12? I lean toward the sweeter stuff. Maybe 50-70 bucks?
Thanks pals.

Hey @bigguyfromqueens, what's up with the migrants in nyc?     (whatever)

I keep hearing about migrants taking over whole hotels over by port authority/midtown west. What's going on?
Also, I think you know about hotels so you would be a good person to ask.

Might grill up some steaks on my end. Not sure.

Sure as fuck won't be drinking a bud light. A cigar sounds nice though.

Thoughts on child discipline     (Fatherhood)

submitted by MaryXmas to Fatherhood 2 years ago

I have a 2 year old boy and I am generally responsible for discipline for misbehavior.
For something like touching the stove, I certainly warn, don't touch the stove but I would let my boy touch the stove to learn the lesson.
Don't smack the dog or don't kick the chickens is a lesson of empathy, and clean up your toys might be better identified as a lesson in morals.
How do you set guardrails for discipline? Is discipline the same as punishment?

I work to be authoritative but not authoritarian.

I have a weak father that was largely absent in discipline when I was growing up.

He was screaming "daddy angry! Daddy angry" as I tried to get him ready for bed. I had to leave the room for a moment before I taught him "daddy enraged".

Ice baths. As much dopamine as a nose full of coke.      (whatever)

I started doing ice baths and holy shit do they work. It really does give you a massive hit of dopamine. Just sit in the tub empty and turn on the cold. It will gradually fill up and it won't shock you so much. Cold showers didn't really do it for me.
100/10.

The Lioness     (whatever)

The Fox once observed to the Lioness that Foxes were very much to be envied in the matter of fruitfulness. Scarcely a year passed that she, for instance, did not bring into the world a good litter of cubs, while some people, she continued, who had only one young one at a time, and that not more than twice or thrice in their lives, looked down upon everybody else with contempt. This sneer was too pointed to be passed over in silence by the Lioness, who replied with a good deal of fire, “What you say is true; you have a great many young at a time, and often; but what are they? Foxes. I have but one, but remember that that one is a Lion.”

My flash suppressor was resting too close to it and exploded into a bunch of plastic pellets all over the place. Gotta replace it with some old blue jeans.

At least I didn't have an a.d. with a bunch of people around like that one asshole.

Tranny (transmission) question      (cars)

submitted by MaryXmas to cars 2.1 years ago

The tranny is slipping a little when the car is cold but seems to go away after the car warms up a bit. 140k miles, generic model sedan, 2012, automatic transmission. I am working on adding some Lucas. Is this a huge deal and time for a rebuild or something that can wait 10k miles? Getting to the point where adding a new tranny might not be worth the 4k.
