Trouble sleeping is typically something called sleep apnea. It doesn't just affect fat people that need to lose weight. Being fat can cause and make sleep apnea worse, but you can be thin, healthy or young and still have sleep apnea. If you have a big tongue, misaligned jaw, or that little thing underneath your tongue is to far back, your tongue will end up resting on the back of your throat causing you to stop breathing or reduce breathing with snoring when you are sleeping. A lot of people never notice while they are asleep, but symptoms are snoring, sore throat when you wake up as well as headaches in the morning.
So here's my story... had trouble sleeping after catching the coof (aka common cold) and went to see a sleep doctor. She looks at my tongue, says I have a big tongue and most likely have sleep apnea. They send you home with some equipment for testing your sleep, take some blood, yada yada and tell you that you need a CPAP machine. Here's where it get's interesting...
The so called doctor says that I need to get my equipment from 1 of 2 places that locally carry this stuff. I pick one and eventually (8 months later) get my machine. I get an invoice bill of about $500 and then more and more bills keep coming. I'm thinking, how much could this machine fucking cost and why doesn't my low deductible insurance cover any of this? Then I get an email from the place that sold me the machine saying I should think about getting replacement parts in case something gets old or breaks. I grab all the invoices and decide to go online to see if I can buy replacement parts online. I discover that everything is for sale online, including the fucking machine. The only requirement is that the machine itself requires a prescription, which you can get from your doctor and use to buy online.
The company I picked to send me the equipment overcharged me for everything. I don't mean a few dollars either, stuff that sells for $100, they were selling to me for $400. It would go to my insurance, who would pay $20-$30 of the cost, then I would be billed for the rest. I could have ordered everything online and not have bothered with the bullshit insurance company, waiting forever to get my equipment and did it all for LESS than what I am going to end up paying with dealing with this company and my insurance.
For reference, the accessories they sold to me for almost $500 after insurance, I just bought spares online for $200. No insurance, no wait. Everything is a fucking scam. Never trust a "medical professional", I figure my doctor gets kickbacks from this place. I find it impossible to believe that a "doctor" who deals exclusively with sleep issues was oblivious to the fact I could have bought my equipment online. She is either dumb as fuck or a fucking scammer, either way, a human piece of shit.
