Ive handled a few pits in my day. Ive noticed that some of them really like to try to knock you down. Ive never been seriously injured by one. But one feels as though they are testing you for weakness. You don’t want to end up on the ground with a pit bull that you don’t know well. I also apply this rule to men (some of them try to knock me down too!).

But did you see, the kid gets over-excited when the dog approaches, jumping up and down? Then the dog jumps on her, trying to knock her over, which he does.

Yep for sure, that's why practice is always preferable before it's needed, but i concur and i'm not trying to be precise here - just repeatedly punching the knife into that area ... if it ain't letting go it keeps getting more knife .

In India they leave out poison for the dogs. It's considered one of the most virtuous things a person can do.

There should be a rule in every neighborhood. If you see a stray pitbull, don't try to read its tags and return it to its owner, just shoot it. You might pay with your life, and if you leave it to roam it will get hungery and it will attack a child. Shoot it. But we live in a society where good deads are illegal.

Edit: Oh, and once it's dead read it's tags to find the owner. You know what to do.

I've carried a knife all my life, even as a kid in school, I've upgraded to a Leatherman, the blade doesn't come out as fast as an open shank but try cutting through wire without sidecutters...the blade though is scalpel sharp when needed...I can skin a cat with it and I can open up the throat of anything smaller than a Timber Wolf.

This happened to me once while I was pruning trees with a lopper. Couldn't fit it around his neck so I lopped off all four of his paws before he finally let go. I followed the blood trail for a while but it was pretty light to begin with. I'd like to imagine he made it home to his owner.

Similar story bro, I was pruning trees too, but it was on a break. Yes, you ought to carry a knife for utility, not in case of a dog (or anything) attack. Trying to stab a dog that's thrashing around may not be quickly effective and may hurt the person it's attacking (or you).

For a dog, you knock it on its side and then stemp on the ribs behind the shoulder. This will collapse the dog's lungs. If it lunges at you, make a fist and stuff it in its mouth; it'll be painful but there's not much permanent damage it can do.
