But, honestly, how is this something that can go on in a family for ten years without being outed? Certainly this cousin must have had siblings or friends who would be aware that she'd transitioned, or that she'd disappeared to go and date her own cousin? How about the aunt/uncle?

There are just too many points of social contact between cousins for this to go on for ten years without a sign. Either extended family knew what happened to this cousin, or they didn't. If they didn't, that too seems like it would have thrown up some flags: like, hey what the fuck happened to this girl? Hey, her teacher called and said she is a woman now. Her psychologist. Her friends.

I refuse to think there aren't a number of people who could have made this situation known long before ten years had passed.
