It might have done nothing to save me, but I would've been out of that boat faster than a whore that stumbled into church. I mean, make a running leap. I can't fathom just watching the shadow of that thing spread over me and just freezing as it descends.

Then again, I have the bias of being an observer. It probably all seemed much faster in reality. The time it required to even realize what was happening might have been too long.

The only recurring dream I've ever had - it's been a lifelong recurring one - is that I walk away from a group of people (the situation always changes), and I am alone. I am always alone outside. I see a tornado in the distance headed straight for us. I get terrified and want to shout to warn everybody, but I can't make a sound and I can't move my feet. I'm just watching this thing getting closer and closer.

I guess the difference is that, in the dream, I am not confused about the danger of the twister. It's probably some symbolic thing anyway; what I'm scared about is incoming danger, and my brain supplies the tornado for whatever reason.

One thing: I never actually die. The dream only consists of me watching the approach. It's just the feeling of inevitability.

Do you actually dream the moment you die? And, are the causes different each time, or is the threat always the same?

I do up to and including the moment of. It's not always the same event or activity, but I get to play it out up to the moment I succeed or perish. It could be a battle situation or involve a motorcycle or zombies etc, but I've gotten pretty good at "controlling" myself in the dreams and often remember when I eventually wake up.

Occasionally, I'll wake up with a heart pounding jerk and fall back asleep right back into the scenario for a redo.

Maybe it's preparation for something?
