I have never seen a scary movie. Not one.

submitted by Nosferatjew to whatever 3.3 yearsJan 9, 2022 22:44:10 ago (+11/-1)     (whatever)

I wonder if it's even possible for a movie to actually be scary. And by scary, I mean, inspires fear. Jumps scares don't count, they don't inspire fear, they are startling, at best, but mostly just annoying.

I consider the movie Idiocracy to be one of the most terrifying movies of all time, even though it's billed as a comedy.

psychological thrillers about things which could actually happen

Signing off your organs if you did.

Because there aren't any. Scary movies are dumb. Writing and images on a screen aren't scary.

The ending of The Ring got me, but I was 16 or so at the time.

Same, no movie ever got me really scared.
But Silent Hill on playstation one had me scared several times. Even wanted to enhance the experience and darkend the room, couldn't take it and had to take a brake and could only play it with the lights on. Those fucking child ghosts in the school were the worst.

Yeah that game was spooky as fuck. What really got me though was thief deadly shadows with its asylum mission. That was terrifying as a kid.

[ - ] Aze 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 14, 2022 22:05:28 ago (+0/-0)

Now try amnesia the Dark Descent. I had to take a 6-month break from that game to let my sanity recover.

Even as a kid? Or as an adult?

[ - ] Metanoid 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 01:22:23 ago (+0/-0)

Most movies don't scare me either. One big exception was The Fourth Kind. Scared the piss out of me.

Aliens

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 02:11:25 ago (+1/-0)

Great sci-fi action flick, but not what I'd call scary.

The original Alien, however, scared the fuck out of me as a kid.

3, Resurrection, and Covenant, however, terrify me. The knowledge that someone thought they were good ideas is absolutely horrifying.

[ - ] Nosferatjew [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 04:01:26 ago (+0/-0)

Intense, but not scary.

[ - ] kammmmak 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 20:58:44 ago (+0/-0)

Aliens was fun, Alien was not.

[ - ] RabbiKinderschtupper 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 01:09:45 ago (+0/-0)

I don't find the actual movies to be scary, but at times I do find the premise to be scary conceptually. The Strangers is a good example of that.

You are a sociopath who lacks empathy. That is the most likely explanation.

The Exorcist

[ - ] ruck_feddit 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 23:08:27 ago (+0/-0)

People always use this example, but I think any 2022 non-faggot can handle The Exorcist. It would probably still work on a child.

Beetlejuice

lol that movie kind of sucks.

When I was ~4, I couldn't finish the fucking Blob because it was too scary. There were a couple things as an adult that creeped me out afterwards. You know, when you're walking up your stairs alone in the dark and you think of that weird scene? Get the heart beating a bit; it's exciting.

I try to explain to the little rucks to see movies as exciting instead of scary. The things that should scare them don't, but they were so sad Bert dies in the newest tremors movie (Spoiler Alert).

I would recommend going to your basement in the dark with a projector. Do this late at night, alone. Watch stir of echoes. Peckerwood mentioned the cell. I'm sure others will come up with examples that aren't fucking garp.

Report back if you felt at least a little creeped out walking up the stairs in the dark afterwards.

I saw so many horrors as a youngster that it got to be where certain scenes - not so much whole movies or premises - scared me. The scene in the blob where the child dies in the sewer was one of those. The movie as a whole was actually a bit silly; I found it comical. But that scene. It had everything. The claustrophobia and smothering, all while it's melting you, but you know that its a little kid it's happening to.

You hardly ever saw kids get it back then. Even today it's still fairly rare. The Walking Dead had a pretty brutal child death, and that also bothered me.

So I guess kids being murdered disturbs me.

Must be why I hate the Jews.

I had many nightmares from seeing the Blob as a kid..

[ - ] RabbiKinderschtupper 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 01:11:45 ago (+0/-0)

The Blob is awesome, but 4 is probably a little young to be watching it.

[ - ] ruck_feddit 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 22:57:18 ago (+0/-0)

This would have been the original movie, which makes the whole thing even worse. Toddler-me was a pussy.

[ - ] Stonkmar 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 12:08:14 ago (+0/-0)

This short film does it for me, every time: https://vimeo.com/ponysmasher/lightsout

The Descent will make you uncomfortable, possibly scared (esp. in dark). Close Encounters of the Third Kind scene when they come to get the kid, freaked me out. And the spiderwalk scene from the Exorcist still pops into my head while walking up stairs.

[ - ] ruck_feddit 1 point 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 23:20:18 ago (+1/-0)

Totally worth the two and a half minutes. Goats, give that a watch.

I remember really rooting for what's her name in The Descent. I could really scare the kids with that after I first verify there's no literal fucking or kikery.

[ - ] Stonkmar 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 11, 2022 11:28:31 ago (+0/-0)

If you watch The Descent again; my theory is that the 'monsters' are all really made up in her mind, and she's the killer instead.

[ - ] ruck_feddit 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 11, 2022 18:31:40 ago (+0/-0)

That could be a possibility if it wasn't for the ending.

[ - ] Stonkmar 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 12, 2022 11:40:04 ago (+0/-0)

There were two versions of the ending.

Both could still hold my theory.

The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion

You can read the script, but you are living the movie.

The manuscript for A Serbian Film was green lit, cast, produced and distributed

That’s scary

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 6 points 3.3 yearsJan 9, 2022 23:09:45 ago (+6/-0)

There's this old movie with Jennifer Lopez called "The Cell" that actually gave me nightmares. I paid $6.50 to see an R rated movie starring J-lo and I didn't even get to see her titties. Pretty fucked up if you ask me.

[ - ] KeepPoal4fags 2 points 3.3 yearsJan 9, 2022 23:46:16 ago (+2/-0)

Fuck yeah, that one scared me properly as a teen. And no taco-titties, what a scam.

The ring didn't really bother me at all. The Grudge was better I reckon.

[ - ] x0x7 2 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 09:16:02 ago (+2/-0)

So you paid money in hopes of seeing the body of a non-white? Degenerate.

Is the zoo around you free, or do you have to pay to get in. Something tells me you don't mind the expense.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 18:22:08 ago (+0/-0)

Something tells me you don't process humor, sarcasm, and social situations very well. I'm going take a leap of faith here and assume you like trains and shower infrequently.
