Death row criminals get the last meal, but not soldiers. Criminals are degenerates who get to have anything they want to eat. Soldiers eat shit before dying for their country. Have you ever thought about this?

I think that the concessions afforded the condemned party are perhaps intended to assuage the consciences of the executioners. Even if the sentencing is justified, the performance of the duties may take a toll upon those that must enact so fatal a practice.
