"she did not speak to anyone there and eventually headed home"
"I genuinely thought that I was going to meet people."
No, you thought all you had to do was show up, and everyone would want to approach you, start a conversation, entertain you, impress you, buy you drinks, and pursue you...all with zero effort from yourself....the way most bitches expect.
Nah, everyone 20ish just stares at their phones all night.
I spent 1.5 years in Manhattan, usually midtown, but other areas, too, and ate dinner solo at a bar every night (expense account.)
I'd try striking up conversations with anyone near me. half of them ignore you, the other half grunt out one two syllable responses before going back to their rectangles. I was at Boulton&Watt, and some kid said, "Where are you from? You're not from here!" Cy: "Texas, how did you know I wasn'y a local?" Him: "Because you talk to people. We don't so that here."
We ended up talking for about 2 hours. Intereting kid. He had never driven before, so at 22 he got his license, bought a car, and drove cross country to Seattle, down to LA, and then over to Miami and back to NYC. "Haven't driven since."
I worked with a bunch of NY'rs in the 80s that had never driven or even been west of the Hudson river. Honestly they were pretty much assholes. I showed up on a motorcycle from Cal and they thought I was a martian.
One benefit from a traveling job, especially those years opening new stores, is that I have been in 49 states (no Alaska) and not just to tourist towns or big cities. In fact, usually the opposite. For example in Indiana, I've been to Ft. Wayne, South Bend, Evansville, and Terre Haute for work, but never Indy. In Colorado, been to Grand Junction, Rifle, Montrose, Delta, Canon City, Fort Morgan, Gunnison, and Lamar, but never Denver, Boulder or the Springs.
When I meet new people, I have usually been to their nearest town/city, and usually get the, "How do you know about ____ town? Usually people only know BIG CITY or TOURIST TRAP!" shock, which opens them up immediately.

Bet she was approached by 20 "average" looking single guys, but was waiting for that alleged rapist to walk up to her. She has standards.
