In the Old Testament book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar II put three Hebrew men in a furnace. They didn't die. Not a hair on their head was singed. True jews don't burn when you put them in the oven.

When I was a kid, a day or so before Christmas I was allowed to pick one present to open. In the third grade I chose a heavy gift that turned out to be an illustrated compilation of the Grimm fairytales. Imagine my disappointment. A book….

The illustrations were horrific, so were the stories. My mother had not read this thing before she gave it to me. Feet chopped off. Eyes pecked out. All sorts of horrors.

The thru line for everything was; obey your parents, be happy with what you have, and stay out of the fucking woods.
