Totally with you on that. I use two, AdNauseum and Ublock Origin. Configured together they work brilliantly. I just don't have the patience with videos. I advance through them because they usually make their point way too slowly. I read quickly. That's why I read books. When I travel, I always have audio books to listen to, not podcasts of idiots talking blather much too slowly for me. I'm a quick learner. I just want the information, not the extraneous crap that's usually thrown in with videos or podcasts. Just signal, not noise.
It depends on what you're looking for. I own many printed books because they have continuing reference value, but I also have a large digital library. Most of those are books I only plan to read once and don't want to pay $20 for a printed version. I tend to download most of them, because I don't want to pay $10 for an overpriced ebook.
For physical books, bookfinder is a great place. Do your research elsewhere, but you can find the lowest price or used copies there. For ebooks, I recommend Z-lib when it's back on line. They were taken down by the FBI, but there's a new domain, and they're still repopulating the database. I've been watching it over the weeks and while it's slow, it's steadily growing. The full domain is z-lib.is.
I am increasingly entertained when some new "doctor" pops up every couple of months, whose videos are getting millions of views. Dr. So-and-So, with the attracts-IQs-of-45-or-less thumbnails featuring the person pointing at some text making a "I can't believe it!" face. Then the headline is something like "Quantum Entanglement New Proton Drive News! Seriously!"
It is getting laughably fucking retarded. Hey, just find someone with an accent. Russian. Australian. Whatever.
Yeah "science journalism" is totally worthless. The other day a headline read "breakthrough in fusion power, net positive energy production" or something similar.
The actual story was that they manufactured a box, or something, out of deuterium and tritium and blasted the fuck out of it with high powered "laaaayzors" in order to make a microsecond energy burst, once and only once.
I bet they neglected to include the energy needed to make the box, made of hydrogen isotopes, for their net energy claims.
They always do that. Like the gravity propulsion thing with the alien space craft and element 115. It still requires a shitload of energy to generate the alleged gravitational force; it's not free energy. And if it was then why don't they use the energy from the 115 to create double the amount of 115 and so on?
I never found the call of duty storylines interesting. My friend was always talking about how it was good when we were playing but never brought it up otherwise.
Some games are better than others. I basically grew up with CoD zombies though, so I probably have more attachment than you might. Everything from CoD 3 to Ghosts was great overall. Shit hit the fan afterward... Advanced Warfare was a neat story. Modern Warfare 2019 had a decent campaign, but everything else sucked.
CoD and Battlefield kinda just died around 2013 for CoD and 2018 for Battlefield.
I dunno what the hell I did to Youtube, but all my reccomended videos seem to be relatively on point. Woodworking, machining, recently they recommended A Call For An Uprising video talking about the Rothschilds getting a letter from the Bri'ish king about Zionism that got nuked days later.
It's only be a relatively recent development in the site, like maybe the last few weeks or so, but I never expected to see that kind of shit on surface level Youtube again.
I guess because I watch nerd stuff like math and programming I end up getting other nerd stuff. But I like productive nerd stuff, not what stamp collectors think about the popularization of the forever stamp. Youtube can't figure it out.
It is. You tube will tell us what we like, don't worry.
When they removed the 11 minute cap from posting it was the worst thing to happen to youtube. Then all the blowhards knowitalls could ramble on forever stroking their own ego.
I hate youtube and the way that it's run makes it a little less relevant ever day.
I watch a lot of science content, and its freak annoying. Theyll say something like new ground breaking JWST discovery. Itll be a 15 minute video where 14.5 minutes are explaining what the JWST and space is. Not all youtubers are guilty of this, but I can think of a couple of creators whos videos average 300k views where they do this crap.
Just about everytime i get sent a utube, i never watch it. It's usually someone and their bloated ego blabbing forever before they make a point. Also, getting it to stop is impossible sometimes without practically turning off the damn phone. Can't stand utubes.
You know that one thing you should watch before going to bed? A book. But, you're right, the content on YouTube swings in all directions when it comes to quality. I'm foreseeing a future 'trend' in which people step back from the Information Age and start separating themselves from technology. Of course, they'll probably be labeled 'hipster' or 'hippie', but whatever.
It's pushing it because you clicked on it, and continue to do so.
Once it clicks for you how their algorithm works, you can clean up that shit.
I use YT quite a bit if I'm watching something, or if I just want some background noise. Nature docs, The Intel Report, that Denis Davydov guy from Ukraine, Ryan Hall (weather guy), Athlean, then naturally the gaming fuckers I watch like bokoen or valefisk, halfman, and others.
Anymore, I rarely get what I'd call "shit content" unless I go looking for it or just happen to find "shit video xyz" actually interesting for one reason or another.
Now what I'll tell you on the thumbnails is that is completely out of your control. Content creators on there have to play the algorithm as well even if they hate it, because money is kinda important. For awhile it was a lot "reaction face + background image" stuff. Then it became "red arrow pointing to thing", and it's transitioning out of that into something else.
That algorithm was designed to make things better, but the thing has kinda turned into a messy ball of yarn where even Youtube folks don't know what to do with it or how to tweak it without breaking it.
The suggested videos of YouTube in 2008 were way better than the shit now. If I clicked a video back then I could keep clicking videos on the sidebar, now they filled it with "targeted" "personalised" garbage i.e. monetised bullshit.
They don't want niche videos blowing up anymore, they want to cache the newest mr beast video and force feed it because it has ads and it's cheaper.
The (((algorithm))) is stupid. It try's to show you what you might like, but it also pushes degenerate shit, and mainly jewish run channels similar to channels I already watch.
and If any channel puts up a thumbnail with a reddit face, mouth and eyes open wide, showing excitement for a product whatever, I "Don't recomend channel" that shit into oblivion. I HATE that reddit face. 8O
I can't figure out why about a month ago it suddenly started recommending sportsball stuff. I never watch any, anywhere. Watching fitness advice is not sportsball. I keep telling it 'Dont Recommend Channel' and it just pushes a different sportsball channel.
Why? And I don't even care, just fuck off w the sports bullshit.

All politics though. I've got Voat for that. There's no more fun video sites. There's alt-tech sites which is politics, and there's youtube which has become the shittiest content with any excuse for watch time. I guess we are giving the monopoly to tiktok which I will not use.
