Back in the day I worked in a dingy computer shop. Let me tell you though, we could fix it all and for way less than the fucking tards at geek squad.

My friends come to me to fix things over geek squad. I go to the shit-hole when I cannot figure it out now.

Same, but I have a knack of knowing whether or not I can handle a task, and am forthright when estimating success rate. My ace up my sleeve is my best friend, who's a prodigy with small electronics and soldering irons. The fucker managed a full teardown, cap replacement, and recalibration of a goddamned Pioneer LaserActive. If you know, you know.

If you don't here is the kit's description:

This gargantuan 200+ piece kit contains all specialized electrolytic capacitors (large, small, nonpolar) used in the Pioneer Laseractive CLD-A100 LaserDisc Player (and probably the PCE-LD1 NEC LaserDisc player as well)

This is the final boss battle of cap kits! Once installed, your CLD-A100 will likely need adjustments - please be sure to familiarize yourself with the service manual procedures for doing so!

These kits are based on 2 separate CLD-A100 players along with the service manual parts listing. Nevertheless, there may be undocumented hardware revisions floating out there! If so, please let us know during the install and we will work with you to document these revisions and send along any necessary parts.

What's included: CLD-A100 PCBs - all except power supply PCB (sold separately)

What's not included: Power supply PCB or PAC module kits (sold separately)

That's not even planned obsolescence. That's straight up fraud.

Planned obsolescence is fraud.

¿Por que no los dos?

You missed my point. What I'm saying is it's something that can be litigated.

They keep talking about this "circular economy" where everything is recycled but no company is actually doing that shit. Apple's shit ends up on ebay or in a landfill. Thanks to emulation, owning hardware really isn't important anymore.

I was an Apple fanboy back from 1978. Literally used to get in schoolyard fights over whether Apple or IBM was better. (A couple of rich jew kids had IBM PCs.)

Back in the older days (feels weird saying that) Apple did represent a certain pinnacle of innovation. Their stuff wasn’t always the fastest or biggest, but it was pretty polished and useable. Even back in the days of AppleSoft (before even the Lisa).

I eventually worked at Apple, down in Cupertino. Even worked with Steve a couple of times. He wasn’t nearly as scary as people make out if you understood him and had a shred of intelligence. I liked the guy a lot. For all of his faults he was a good visionary. He innovated.

I left Apple in the early 2000s, and then Steve died. And then Ives left. And then Apple seemed to grind to a halt.

And then, one day, I realized Apple stuff just wasn’t nearly what it once was. For about the last 10 years there have not been any real significant innovations from Apple. Sure, there have been advancements, but no real innovation. “Thinner” is not an innovation when it goes beyond the human capacity to notice. Same goes for “faster”.

That day, about four years ago, I bought my first PC. Built it myself. It’s fast as fuck and has three 32” HD monitors. I love it and will likely not look back to Apple any time soon.

The new crew at Apple has driven the company in to stagnation. And you can see it by the stock price. I told my investment advisor yesterday that I want to diversify my Apple holdings because I believe the company is headed for a long downward trend. He agreed.

Apple is sinking. It’s going to take a while, and we will likely see multiple changes of the senior guard. Maybe they’ll find somebody like Steve and Ives again. Maybe not. But for now, Apple is on the ‘do not buy’ list.

My iMac turned 10 last year, and has never had a problem with OS updates, or anything else. Current Mac OS still vastly superior to whatever I have on my new covid hoax machine by bill gates.

Don't forget that a lot of people jizz themselves over the latest iPhone, and buy new ones every year, despite their current phones being totally functional and useful.

It's probably a combination of planned obsolescence, marketing, and catering to their customers.

Check out Louis Rossman's channel https://www.youtube.com/@rossmanngroup for lots of videos of repairs done on crappy Apple products and for examples of Apple's blatantly ruthless and immoral approach to their customers AKA slavish fans.

You need to go back a few years for the repair videos. Most of his recent videos are more focused on general topics of small business ownership and the right to repair movement.

A fellow names Hugh Jeffreys has lots of repair videos as well, but for all makes not just Apple.

In Philly. Go to shiny, clean PC repair shop. They don't have a single video card available for my modern system. Literally zero. But they can order one and stick it in for a charge.

Go to disgusting, smelly, PC repair shop with so much junk one has to walk a narrow path to the desk. Achmed has so many various-priced video cards on cheap I was confused which to buy as a temporary replacement.

True story. Literally, true story.
