Sign language in UK and US is different

Just learned a fun fact. Sign language in UK and US is different, this way British and American deaf people can't understand each other.

Are the signs themselves different or is it the vocabulary differences (lorry, skip, bonnet instead of truck, dumpster, car hood)?

As far as I know, UK uses one hand, US uses two hands.
