According to this we are better off now, since having on average 70k of a needed 90k is better than having an average of 3k of a needed 11k.

Even if you had three times as much as the average with 3k you'd still be short of 11k.

If public transportation cost $243 a year in 1950 and the yearly income was $3000.00 they didn't transport themselves very much. It was about a nickel for the streetcar or bus token.
