Take it to the range with some bros. Fatty McSackOfShit is back from a tour with the navy, minus 250 pounds and more the man for it. He came along with a friend. He's obviously improved his lot, so I'm happy for him and don't particularly mind him being there.
Let him shoot the Glock. He puts a few rounds through it at which point it stovepipes (it had never jammed previously).
He turns to me with a smug, shit eating expression on his face and asks "Does it jam often?"
To which I replied, knowing that this is a sure-fire way to jam an otherwise reliable weapon, "Only if you limp wrist it."
Good lord, I knew their standards were slackin' but that's a bit much.
Been thinking of replacing my 9mm CCW for awhile now. It's nice and small, easy to conceal, but it's too fucking small for my hands. Never had any other problems with it though, so I've been lazy with it.

It's a balance, bro.
Not a particularly gifted or experienced shooter and I took top spot for marksmanship in my CCW class. I attribute this solely due to the fact that I was the only participant to use a full-size pistol in the program (the very same Gen 2 Glock I mentioned earlier).
Current EDC is compact-ish for a full size and, while some days it feels like a goddamn boat anchor in may pants, at least I know I can count on it.
Think of how you handle the pistol in ideal circumstances and then factor in an adrenaline dump. Would you bet your life on it?

I'll have to re-assess my desired effective range, that's for sure. I know I'm one of those people who get very calm when being shot at but the circumstances leading up to an event like that will probably factor in to it.
