Russia invades Russia: Russian nationals with "Liberty of Russia Legion" and "Russian Volunteer Corps" militias take over portions of Belgorod region.

Lots of conflicting reports, not much good footage. This has been developing over the last 24 hours or so.

Belgorod region is right on the border to Ukraine, and contains central town by the same name.

Supposedly they crossed in from Ukraine, quickly overran the meager defenses and border stations, took control of armored vehicles, and proceeded to "liberate" portions of the region. Explosions were reported in the town of Belgorod as well. Ukraine claims no knowledge or involvement. Russia calls them Ukrainian saboteurs and terrorists. They appear to all be Russian citizens, not Ukrainians. No reliable info on their numbers.

Rumors have been floating around of declaring an independent Belgorod People's Republic and holding referendums shortly. Seems unlikely, given the small scale of the operation at the moment.

Russia has been holding emergency meetings. Shelling has been reported in the region. A lone helicopter was seen flying over the city, but all it did was drop decoy flares and leave.

It's still hilarious that they made it as far as they did, with what appears to be around 100 men or so. Shows how defenseless and weakened Russia is right now. Spread too thin from attacking to even defend its own border. From its own citizens. On the border to Ukraine, no less. Perhaps highlighting that was the only purpose of this. Can't think of many other reason to do this without a substantially larger force.

Your perception of the world could benefit by watching videos of events. Events like a column of Ukrainian and western combat vehicles, with soldiers wearing Ukrainian uniforms. Have you even looked at the "rare good Russians" as they prepared to attack?

the funding didnt help much because the russians where being shelled for 8 long years and the militias stayed in their areas while the ukranians have been inside russia proper murdering people a la carte

Did you watch the videos they put out, like the two I linked in the OP? They are clearly Russians. No hint of Ukrainian accents. Even the Russian state and its media acknowledges that these are "known individuals", ie dissident citizens of Russia.

Of course the situation is a little different. This is just a few dozen men, instead of a full scale rebellion like the one Russia funded in Ukraine. This has been going on for only a few days, rather than 8 years. And these guys haven't shot down any civilian airliners, murdering 300 innocent people in the process.

btw, this so called war is more than ukraine vs russia is more about the resources of the region (UKR was a top exporter of wheat and in some areas has special minerals) but even aside from that this whole is a diversion from the CONvid fiasco and other issues that are plaguing humanity right now.
