Grocery Prices Going Up Again

submitted by Scyber to Rants 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 20:36:23 ago (+32/-0)     (Rants)

Ground beef is averaging about $6.00/lb for 80/20 meat in my area.

Chicken is about $10/lb for breasts & $5.00/lb for thighs.
I don't buy wings because they're overpriced and half is bone weight.

Pork is the cheapest meat but the worse for you - can't believe a pound of bacon is cheaper than ground beef at around $5.00/lb in my area.

Don't get me started on potato chips. I can get over 10lbs of potatoes for the price of a bag of chips and that's fucking ridiculous.

Butter & cheese are overpriced unless I go to Aldi or a speciality high end store with better quality - but that means more money out of my pocket for gas & time to get there.

$5.00/lb for strawberries & grapes!

I've been checking out food on Amazon Fresh but their options are really limited & a lot of their stuff is about 30% more expensive then if I shop at Kroger or Meijer & at least 40% more expensive than Aldi.

Could Amazon & all these grocery delivery companies be purposely jacking up the prices? And they still charge $10 for delivery too.

I just dropped $83 on groceries last Monday and I'm almost out of food. I shop on Mondays because they usually have the best deals since most retail stores get their truck shipments on Tuesdays (I worked in retail for a few years and hated Tuesdays) but now it seems like everyone is just inflating the fuck out of everything on purpose and blaming the economy.

$80 used to get me about 2 weeks worth groceries - and almost a month's worth if I shopped at Aldi. But now Aldi is jacking up their prices too and that's like the cheapest grocery store in my area unless I travel 25 miles to the hood & shop at a Save-A-Lot or some other weird "food club" store that's only in the ghetto.

Dude. Nitrogen is for stupid people. Air is 78% nitrogen. If you pay extra for it you're a retard.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 3 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 23:29:33 ago (+3/-0)

because the dumbasses keep printing money.

Do not allow them to hide behind incompetence. They are doing this on purpose.

Wh-what?!

It's basic once-a-month maintenance. Takes you a couple of minutes. If that's too much, well, you're fucked mate.

[ - ] JudyStroyer 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 29, 2023 08:04:24 ago (+1/-0)

It’s more for keeping the pressure constant despite temperature changes. Yeah N2 is larger and will tend to seep less but that is not it’s primary purpose. This little “trick” is from aircraft maintenance and has to do with temperature changes and it’s effect on density. You know, “it’s gotten really cold and my tires seem flat”; that is from the latent moisture in compressed air, which will expand and contract with temperature changes. not so much with N2.

Costco tire center uses nitrogen.

They'll even give you some fancy-dancy green caps for the valve stems.

Welcome to Costco. I love you.

No, it's because the dumbasses keep printing money.

Are people really making more though? I’m not. I’m making less.

I forgot about Walmart. I hate that store and refuse to buy any food there because a number of years ago I bought what I thought was a rack of lamb that turned out to be either FOX or DONKEY meat from CHINA and my girlfriend and I had food poisoning for a few days even though we cooked it properly.
We told the manager of the store and they offered us a gift card for the amount on our receipt - which was under $20.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 21:38:13 ago (+1/-0)

Theres a trend going on right now where people are getting catering as meal prep. They say its cheaper and and already cooked so it also saves on time and utilities. I can see how it would work for a single person or maybe just 2 people.

You could look into that or start going to bulk stores/butcher/resturant supply store to get your meat. My next purchase is a meat slicer. These grocery prices are bullshit. Had one years ago and now wish I kept it.

Yes, you get paid for doing hard jobs well that very few can do.

[ - ] Vrbllpollushin 2 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:05:16 ago (+2/-0)

I buy all of my meat and produce from local farmers. Fair burger is 3.99 a lb, chicken breast is the same price. So live anywhere near the countryside? I haven't baought store eggs in years. $8.00 for 30 fame fresh eggs. Make some connections. There are deals out there, they just don't deliver.

[ - ] Scyber [op] 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:28:56 ago (+0/-0)

I have an egg intolerance. Don't know if it's because I'm getting older or because I ate so many eggs growing up that my body just got sick of them.

[ - ] Vrbllpollushin 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 29, 2023 10:07:59 ago (+0/-0)

I don't particularly care for fried eggs anymore. Probably we just have been eating them for years

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey -3 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:40:00 ago (+0/-3)

Waaaaa! My pussy hurts! Do you have a lot of problems? Food related problems? Are you a woman?

[ - ] Scyber [op] 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 23:01:46 ago (+1/-0)

"Keep eating food that makes you sick, goy! Spend more shekles on medications and jew doctor visits, goy! Stop being a pussy and eat that food that makes you feel shitty to keep the economy going, goy!"

STFU - you know nothing about me other than that and how anyone can NOT have at least 1 food intolerance in this day in age with all these pesticides & GMOs and chemicals in today's food is pretty rare.

[ - ] Gowithit 2 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 23:16:20 ago (+2/-0)*

So messing with the food. We all know it. Your egg thing? Same. Lady I sold lemons to once told me it was the bleach they use to clean the eggs. So when I bought "real" I didn't have a problem eating them.

Milk:

I dont understand how two parents that have no issue with dairy can have a kid thats 19 that can drink eat dairy all day everyday no problem. But the last 2 kids born within the past 5 years BOTH have lactose intolerances. Its the milk not the genetics. Oh and its about to get worse.

They've been talking about that alpha gal? The tick bite thing disease lately and are doing the beginning rounds on twitter about how its not a bad thing and that its actually a good thing. Yes, they are going there.

[ - ] MichaelStewart 2 points 1.8 yearsAug 29, 2023 00:51:24 ago (+2/-0)

The tick bite that makes you allergic to meat that they're trying to weaponize?

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 29, 2023 08:09:51 ago (+1/-0)

Yes. Nevermind the articles do the benefits outweigh the cons of using it in medicines but on twitter (may have been trolls, but honestly you never know now) talking about it in a positive light.

This is beneficial in the long run towards "sustainability"

This would help plant based products be more mainstream

There were other comments like those but i'm glad the majority were saying how it ties in to Bill Gates.

Trying to weaponize?

I think they've been testing and we're in full stride now. Apparently theres been an explosion of alpha gal cases within the past year or two.

[ - ] CoronaHoax 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:55:59 ago (+1/-0)

I just bought four smallish bags of muesli for $45. Wtf. I was in a high end food store and steaks were $50/lb. $50/lb for something I could f up and make taste like shit.

[ - ] peety 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:47:18 ago (+1/-0)

This is how the world seems worse for every generation.

Those in charge of companies are forced to make a profit or they're kicked to the curb.

Gradually, product amounts are smaller for the same price, then the price increases and so on.

Less people can buy and if they can, lower quality food and less nutritious food is purchased that degrades the mind and body.

This is only one of the factors that those privileged few rich people use against the test of us.

[ - ] CoronaHoax 2 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:59:13 ago (+2/-0)

We don’t have capitalism and haven’t for a long time.

[ - ] NaturalSelectionistWorker 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 22:15:15 ago (+2/-1)

There are cheaper options in your ghetto? Weird. For a long time the only supermarket in the heart of our ghetto was a locally owned one that had way higher prices to cover security costs. Then walmart moved in a couple miles up the road, so now there's less of a food desert. I try not to buy too much food at walmart though, don't trust it.

There's never been a better time to plant a backyard garden and get some chickens, or at least friends with chickens.

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 29, 2023 08:27:47 ago (+0/-0)

I pay 10 EUR for 1kg chicken breasts in Germany. That about twice the price you pay. We also earn about half what you earn in the states and also pay more taxes...

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 23:08:30 ago (+0/-0)

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 29, 2023 00:26:09 ago (+0/-0)

Trim, brine, marinade.

I already ate that chicken though now I am tired of chicken after two trays of breast and two trays of thighs. I have pork chops now.
