Total Recall misses the social commentary mark by a wide margin. The Philip K Dick story it's based on is high concept, heavy handed stuff and frankly not very suitable for a movie adaption IMO. And besides let's face it, the movie's biggest attraction by a long shot is Arnold. Without him it would have been a box office dud.

Robocop OTOH nails all of the points for a modern day SF classic perfectly. Except the chick that was cast for the partner. She was awful in the role. Fortunately the movie doesn't suffer for it.

Robocop is best of the two. If I had to pick a movie right now, it'd be "Fist Full of Dollars".

The best movies I ever encountered were Dirty Little Billy with Michael J Pollard in the title role and Richard Evans as Goldie .. and wrestling movie Mad Bull with Alex Karras in the title role and Steve Sandor as The White Knight, the midget actor who played White Knight's training partner should have received an Oscar for best supporting actor.
