I have no problem asking my staff similar questions, and they generally stay on topic. I suppose I'm lucky to not deal with developers as much as I do with SRE/DevOps guys who still write plenty of code and features to keep the lights on.

Perhaps it helps that my whole team is White males too? Become brutal, the Whites can handle it and will endure. Eventually your whole team will be winners.

Surprised he’s even trying to show off. One thing I learned from renovating is stick to the fucking end customer usable and faceable product.

Almost all programmers don’t get this. All. They all think they’re in mommy’s basement doing some programming showing off their ego while avoiding / beating around hard work tasks / methods / approaches. Ie they always push to recreate so they can do the easy work of having it all designed their way from the beginning instead of figuring out how it is and just getting a fucking product and feature out the door.
