Okay that's the first time I've ever heard that Eric Weinstein say anything that was not mainstream knowledge. One of the things he said was you look the absence of the phds in the field that would be necessary and then he identified two locations in the country where those people might be found and one was Stony Brook and the other was Austin Texas and then the other thing he said which was fascinating was that there were four investment return groups that didn't make any sense that we're making impossible returns and he identified d e Shaw Bernie Madoff Jeff Epstein and whatever whatever the name of the other one the other group is that has that guy who did the theoretical physics work but now is at that hedge fund. And I forgot what he said that name of that place was but that guy's been written about and he supposedly invented some algorithm that no one else has ever been able to invent that predict stock market performance better than anybody else and that's why his hedge fund is done so well. Which is a really nice cover if you're actually getting huge sums of money from the defense department to do some top secret development work and I never thought of that before but that's actually brilliant. First time I've ever heard Eric Weinstein say anything of any substance. Unfortunately the interview cuts off right when he's talking about that and it'd be nice to see the rest of that interview.

Yeah these comments he made were fascinating. Just cut through all the social jumble and go straight to resources needed for suck operations, and the signatures you'd see where those are being run.
I thought the same thing. Normally, this guy strikes me as somebody who says fairly common sense things with some theatricality. It makes the podcast circuit cum in their pants for some reason. But I think this was the most down-to-earth and sensible I've ever seen him. It seemed like he wasn't trying to be impressive, so he wound up being impressive.
On the UFO subject, or really any subject for that matter, be it terrorism or pandemics, I have been living by a principle now for quite a while that hasn't burned me yet. If it can be faked, it will be. It's cheaper. If you can articulate a reasonable motivation for governing powers to inculcate some belief in X in the public, and it can be done by faking it, then if you see X, it is most likely fake. Encounters with aliens are a really plausible candidate; people have been talking about this possiblity for years.
When I was younger, the hyper-competent, top-secret project (what Weinstein calls the "Manahattan Project" format) was what I thought. Now that I'm a bit older, my credence is 98% that it's more like Wag The Dog, and 2% that aliens have just been comingling with humans in leadership for a century (possibly for a lot longer).
