Blood Pressure is silly

submitted by Trope to TellUpgoat 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:05:10 ago (+24/-3)     (TellUpgoat)

“I know you’re nervous about being here - so let’s attach this device to your upper arm and pump it up as much as possible. As your adrenaline kicks in due to the sheer discomfort or you wanting to get the fuck outta here, I’ll expect to get an accurate reading of your resting blood pressure.”

Ask your doctor about chill pills.

But yeah the automated one you could sit and use in Walgreens used to freak me the fuck out.

I’ve had my blood pressure tested five times over a half hour and it came down to normal and they let me go.

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 21:13:55 ago (+0/-0)

Sure, but almost all doctors now recommend taking your blood pressure at home when you are relaxed and they say that is the most correct number

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 20:22:50 ago (+0/-0)

Some people stay calm and get a somewhat accurate reading but others have 'white coat syndrome' and get real nervous, their heart rate goes up, their BP goes up.

[ - ] Doglegwarrior 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:53:15 ago (+0/-0)

It's funny I always meditate and practice breathing to slow my heart rate and stay calm now wonder my blood pressure has always been good and heart rate low I probably caused the reading to actually be accurate!

[ - ] fnbs 3 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:38:22 ago (+3/-0)

All they are lookin for is a reason to put you on blood pressure meds for the rest of your life

[ - ] BoozyB 2 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 21:14:32 ago (+2/-0)

This.
Been there. Done that. Didn't take the ticket.

[ - ] namefagsrgay 2 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:18:05 ago (+2/-0)

Even just being in the presence of some piece of shit doctor makes my blood pressure spike.

Took time out of my day to see a paki who's going to argue with me and try to justify denying me the treatment I want so he can feel like he's defeated me in some way. That's why I got a blood pressure meter at home and stopped caring about bloodwork.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 20:24:34 ago (+0/-0)

I agree but once a year blood work is wise. Surely you can find a white doc office to handle that for ya?

[ - ] Leveraction 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:09:08 ago (+1/-0)

That's why they do 3 readings throughout your appt to get a accurate average

[ - ] anrach 2 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 18:48:03 ago (+2/-0)

You're right, we should just prohibit any diagnostic tool or method which could be
misleading if not utilized properly :P

Holy shit relax you pussy. If it's high, they check it again after you've had a chance to calm down and air your cootflaps out.

[ - ] Indoctrinated_USA -4 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:31:02 ago (+1/-5)

The fuck?
What kind of fragile McFaggot is nervous about the doctor and has an adrenaline response to a air bladder wrapped around his arm?
I don't often recommend this, but you need to be medicated.

[ - ] Trope [op] 5 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 18:28:57 ago (+6/-1)

Suck my dick, you fucking kike.

[ - ] Indoctrinated_USA -3 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 18:35:36 ago (+0/-3)*

So, you're here, sperging about being emotionally fragile and when someone tells you your response is abnormal - you demonstrate your commitment to fragility by posting that?

Look... It's not normal to be that responsive in that situation; I'm not talking shit and I obtain no benefit from making you step away from the computer for a good cry. I'm saying that you need to recognize this moment for what it is - an objective third party speed bump. I'm saying there's an imbalance in your life, probably a few; do yourself a favor and commit to tackling at least one. Watch a few motivational man talks on youtube or psych yourself into one of those sigma mindsets.

I don't like the faggotry of fragility but what I dislike even more is that we use this site to tear each other down as aggressively as we do. Moving forward, if you can commit to not being such a bitch - I can commit to supporting your personal shit whenever you post it here... I mean, we're all dealing with our own brand of fuckery, yeah?

Now, get on it.

[ - ] namefagsrgay 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:20:15 ago (+1/-0)

Tldr you fucking faggot

[ - ] Indoctrinated_USA 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:28:43 ago (+0/-0)

lol...

[ - ] BoozyB 2 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:51:41 ago (+3/-1)

That's what the doctors say.
They cast doubt and stoke a little fear to drive up your BP so they can sell you pills and several follow-up visits.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 18:11:02 ago (+1/-0)

and thats when you go 'nope dont need that' and dont take the blood pressure pills.

i mean i get low blood pressure issues an i know when im having em cos suddenly im cold as fuck (we are talking needing a fucking thick blanket on a 25celsius night) while dad had one heart attack from high pressure and that was it.

so its a thing like it or not, and it aint the doctors fault.

[ - ] Indoctrinated_USA -1 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 18:23:22 ago (+0/-1)

In general, no they don't.
It's not a stressful experience.
It's not - with any provider I've ever seen - a event of any emotional impact at all.
You're overweight.
Your diet sucks.
You're getting older.
You're not spending the time you require in resistance training.
So... You have high blood pressure.
Sounds like social anxiety as well.
Look, I'm not your enemy here.
I don't want to hurt your pride or cast aspersions on your character.
I'm saying the BP and pulseox SHOULD NOT be causing tension or emotional response.

[ - ] namefagsrgay 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:19:57 ago (+1/-0)

Shut the fuck up faggot.

[ - ] Indoctrinated_USA -2 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:28:36 ago (+0/-2)

You seem like the kind of guy who masturbates in front of a mirror while crying.
Have you ever stuck your finger up your own ass?
I bet you've got Grindr on your device but you've never brought yourself to use it.
Nice alt, btw.

[ - ] RollinDaGrassTyson 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 19:51:22 ago (+1/-0)

The same fragile McFaggots that

"Yes, Dr. Of course, Dr. Oh some new pharmaceutical products? What, weekly? Okay, thanks! You're always looking out for me, Dr Schwartzenberg!"

[ - ] Indoctrinated_USA 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 20:00:03 ago (+0/-0)

Strawman all you like.
There is no reaon on this earth to have anxiety about a BP cuff or pulseox reading.
Don't want pills?
So the fuck what.
Eat well, move frequently, dedicate yourself to regular resistance training, and mind your stress; restated, if you choose to live healthy, you won't need to take them.
Don't make that choice and you might.
Jesus Christ, you people are coming out of the woodwork tonight.
I'll never understand some people's pathological need to choose, identify with, and then defend weakness.
You're only a victim if you choose to be.
Trope may or may not be that guy, but you sure as hell are.

White coat syndrome is a thing.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 3 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 18:09:19 ago (+3/-0)

yeah but so is high and low blood pressure

theres literally no answer to this other than calming yourself the fuck down. no one else can stop you being shit scared of something.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 2 monthsFeb 18, 2025 05:27:48 ago (+0/-0)

Do it home by yourself.

[ - ] SilentByAssociation 6 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:24:54 ago (+6/-0)

I heard someone talking about blood pressure and the proper way to record it, and hospitals never correctly take blood pressure.

[ - ] SumerBreeze 2 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:55:47 ago (+2/-0)

The correct way is for the patient to be lying down with the arm raised above the heart. Most do it wrong with the patient sitting upright.

[ - ] Her0n 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 20:23:59 ago (+1/-0)

More pressure to read when you sit that way

[ - ] BoozyB 6 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:22:25 ago (+6/-0)

Buy your own BP cuff and DIY it at various times when you're resting, or exercising or whatever.
It's more real world accurate than while suffering white coat anxiety syndrome in a clinic.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 20:23:42 ago (+0/-0)

People with white coat syndrome will still get nervous even when they do it themselves.

[ - ] BoozyB 0 points 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 21:13:22 ago (+0/-0)

Easier to control with a glass of wine, though.

[ - ] dassar 0 points 2 monthsFeb 18, 2025 03:12:46 ago (+0/-0)

At least with my own BP cuff, i can spend 10-15 minutes relaxing, destressing and calm breathing - without the DR purposely asking me questions seconds before taking my readings - noticed a marked difference in reading at home at various times of the day /week etc, and in the GP office monthly for two/ three readings.
In my case a difference anywhere from 15-30 points for both systolic and diastolic - every visit.

[ - ] AugustineOfHippo2 1 point 2 monthsFeb 17, 2025 17:14:08 ago (+1/-0)

It really irks me when they do the reading based on their fingers across my vein. How subjective is that? Not even a machine taking the reading, just some chick resting her fingers across the vein.
