It's amazing what happened to Korean cars quality

submitted by Conspirologist to cars 2 monthsMar 23, 2025 09:46:32 ago (+8/-3)     (cars)

In the beginning, Korean cars were ugly junk. Now their cars are reliable and well designed like European and Japanese. My Hyundai has almost 100.000 Km and it's still like new. Nothing bad ever happened.

The Chinese are not like Koreans. New Chinese cars have good design now, but unlike Koreans, they are using Japanese engines and other parts to be reliable.

If you are poor, you can easily buy Chinese cars now, but they are still made from Japanese parts.

But Koreans managed to achieve real European and Japanese quality. When I was choosing between European and Japanese as usual, they were all with the absurd 3 cylinder junk engines. The only car with a normal 4 cylinder engine I was able to find was a Korean Hyndai.

My 2017 Kia Sonata just hit 100.000 miles with no failures. Just change oil every 4000 miles, plus brakes and tires as needed. Never even replaced any lights yet. It replaces my KIA van which got rear ended but was wonderful too.

I am retired now, so no more Mercedes or BMWs or Triumphs for me, although they were great cars back in the day. Mostly miss my 1955 Belair, which was a fun money pit.

Yes, I miss old cars too. Now it's almost impossible to find a normal car with a non digital, flashy dashboard, and idiotic touchpad. I know some designers are willing to quit this dangerous junk made by faggots with no brain.

Yes, it's Japanese. I'm talking about Korean. When I was young, they were junk. Now they are as good as European or Japanese. But the most important thing is they still have 4 cylinders engines, not 3 junk.

I have never seen so many seized engines as with Hyundai 2L, 2.4L and 3.3L
Absolute garbage. Poorly designed with exessive rust after a few years on sub frames and poor handling.
No aftermarket parts available so if you want to keep your car going you'll have to got get the parts at the dealer.
Stay away from Hyundai and Kia.

This is strange. I never had problems with my Hyndai. What you are desribing is what happened with my Ford. It started falling apart just after 1 or 2 years.

Doesn't change the fact that they are garbage, your post is based on one car - yours. 100K is nothing wait till you reach 150.

I agree. My wife and I grew up Ford and GM families but we won’t buy those even with the huge discount.
We were mainly Honda for a long time, then got a Subaru. We moved to Hyundai since the price is much less than Honda or Toyota. Now we have a 2023 Santa Fe that is very nice. The assisted driving is awesome.
We also have a 2013 Elantra and another 2014 Santa Fe, maintenance has been minimal on both.

I know. Ford used to be quality. It's losing in EU because the cars become junk after a few years. I thought it was just mine, but it's really common now. I was a fan of Honda, cars and motorbikes, but their car design become awful. I don't know about bikes, because I'm not young anymore and don't care.

Sorry Bro. I'm a Chevy guy from way back.

My 1st vehicle was a "66 Chevy P/U" 2-speed Hydro-glide transmission-283ci.V8!

Upgoated you for the info.

Unfortunately I'm from EU. We use small cars because the streets are small. I have tried a Mustang once, it was beautiful, but impossible for every day use on small roads. There are a few pick ups used only by farmers, because they have literally no roads where they live.

The fact that you considered a ccp car is telling comrade

I wouldn't drive a Hyundai or KIA if you gave me one for free.

They're shit, so it's no wonder you like them.

I suppose you havent heard of the recent major engine trouble with kia forte and the others that used the same engines. Or the recent issues with people stealing them because it was so easy.

[ - ] Conspirologist [op] -1 points 2 monthsMar 23, 2025 10:04:02 ago (+0/-1)

Nope. I don't like KIA anyway. They use red lights for dashboard, this is absurd. I know they are the same more or less, but I'm amazed by my Hyndai quality.
