Agreed.
Out all day - rain hail shine - return home just before streetlights came on.
Either in a group at a buddies or exploring the surrounding neighborhoods, going to far away exotic parks and locations (probably like a 1-2 hr bike ride) at the drop of a hat.
Best thing was discovering a building site or abandoned house and claiming it for a couple of hours of close intensive investigation and horse play or stone throwing before moving on.
