When Windows 10 reaches the end of its life [in five months] , you don't need to buy a new computer

submitted by Flanders to whatever 5 hoursMay 17, 2025 13:33:34 ago (+14/-2)     (whatever)

The "End of 10" website is a cooperative effort to let people know that they have other options besides buying a new computer. The site seems to be Europe -oriented, but you can check it out. We need a similar site for Americans.

This comment is the obligatory "use linux" comment.

You're welcome.

Thank you sir may I have another!?

Use Linux unless you are a brain dead idiot. Minimum install requirement is 95 IQ. Can't figure it out? I've got some news for you.

[ - ] Belfuro 2 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:26:19 ago (+2/-0)

I bet Microsoft have knowingly leftbopen security wholes in win10 that will be leakes in a year or 2.

Ill keep my work win 10 by empty it of anything important.

Hasn't releasing Windows versions full of security holes been SOP for M$ since....forever?

[ - ] RobertJHarsh 1 point 1 hourMay 17, 2025 18:07:21 ago (+1/-0)

Yep. EternalBlue is one that comes to mind. The NSA specifically asked M$ to not patch it.

People used Windows 7 for over 5 years past it's "End of Life". Users kept Window XP running for even longer.

[ - ] Niggly_Puff 4 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:44:17 ago (+4/-0)

People act like if you connect a windows xp machine to the internet there is a 100% chance it will be taken over instantly. In my experience that is not the case. Never had an issue running an older OS.

[ - ] WhiteCollarCriminal 3 points 4 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:03:31 ago (+3/-0)

I love windows xp, along with 85 billion other people. Okay... maybe not 85 billion but a LOT! 😱 I held off of Windows 10 for a long time but finally went with it and love that too. Windows 11... Meh. Not so much.

[ - ] Flanders [op] 2 points 4 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:23:18 ago (+2/-0)

So did I until my computer conked on me. Win 7 was great, even after telemetry was snuck onto it. It was my favorite, and Win 8 and 10 sucked. I just posted this for info, but I'm planning to ditch Win 10 and go for Linux.

The biggest problem linux has is that none of the distros seem to have an easily understood method posted for Windows users on how to easily switch to it and then begin to use it.

[ - ] KosherHiveKicker 2 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:55:16 ago (+2/-0)

There are HUNDREDS of videos on Youtube showing how to install, and use the basic features of each flavor of Linux.

Take 20minutes and do some searching and GL!. You can even setup your computer to dual boot both Windows and Linux. You just select which you use at startup.

https://mxlinux.org/support/

A lot of getting familiar with any Linux 'flavor' is in the doing. Explore. Try out. Learn as you go. The above is just like a rough map....it's up to you to discover and fill in the blanks. Sometimes it's actually kinda fun.

[ - ] Moravian 1 point 2 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:46:57 ago (+1/-0)

I'm still using windows 7 and it works fine.

[ - ] PuddinTame 1 point 2 hoursMay 17, 2025 17:04:20 ago (+1/-0)

You betcha...still using Win 7, and as with XP Pro before it, will keep on doing so until Lil Billie and his M$ minions find a way to sabotage it...then it's MX Linux.

Ain't quite senile enough to move on to an OS packed with corporate spyware/malware (an embedded keylogger? really?), hence Win 10 is a no-go. Each rendition thereafter is even worse, so Win 7 is the end of the road for M$.

[ - ] Tallest_Skil 8 points 5 hoursMay 17, 2025 13:56:43 ago (+8/-0)

Or just… keep using it. Just keep using it. Just stop obeying. Stop fucking obeying. Just keep using the computer. Ignore literally everything and use the computer.

Just.

Just keep.

What the fuck is this even about. I don’t want a single fucking person to ever tell me I’m wrong about the future again when people are so fucking retarded that they don’t comprehend this.

[ - ] Razzoriel 2 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:46:20 ago (+2/-0)

Keeping using Windows 7. I like having extra RAM available to run what I want instead of using it to run bloatware.

[ - ] BMN003 2 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:48:38 ago (+2/-0)

Windows 11 requires 8GB of RAM minimum, because just the OS occupies 6-7GB all on its own.

[ - ] uvulectomy 2 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:32:39 ago (+2/-0)

Meanwhile on Linux I can have several things going on at once (including running a piece of software through WINE to pull up 4K security camera footage across town) and barely break 3gb usage total.

[ - ] JustALover 1 point 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:51:42 ago (+1/-0)

Remember when one could comment shit out in config.sys and autoexec.bat to maximize those 640kb or 1mb of ram one had?

I remember. Shit, even the order in which TSRs were loaded could save you a couple of kb.

[ - ] RollinDaGrassTyson 4 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:26:14 ago (+4/-0)

Each new version of Windows normalizes ever greater erosion of ownership, privacy and agency that users once enjoyed.

And everyone treats the prior version of Windows as though it had been some kind of bastion of freedom, privacy and ownership.

Only total newbies and normies are unaware that this is all cyclical, and the real solution is to just avoid Windows entirely.

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 2 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:34:45 ago (+1/-0)

The silent change from "My Computer" to "This PC" was not an accident.

[ - ] registered_bot 3 points 5 hoursMay 17, 2025 14:24:49 ago (+3/-0)

And then Linux takes the center of attention.

[ - ] TheNoticing 3 points 5 hoursMay 17, 2025 13:57:59 ago (+3/-0)

I use Linux.

[ - ] observation1 2 points 5 hoursMay 17, 2025 13:49:08 ago (+2/-0)

What's best flavor for somebody who distrusts Systemd and who beleives linux has spy packages unwittingly snuck into them via GNU and other open source that are actually malicious code.

[ - ] oyveyo 5 points 5 hoursMay 17, 2025 14:02:00 ago (+5/-0)

Etch-A-Sketch

[ - ] uvulectomy 3 points 2 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:43:48 ago (+3/-0)

"...spy packages unwittingly snuck into them via GNU and other open source that are actually malicious code."

It's because of it being open-source that the xzutils fiasco was discovered. An autist noticed a performance regression and started digging. I think it was taking something like 100-200ms to do something.

In Windows, something taking an extra tenth of a second would have gone unnoticed, and there would be no way anyone could figure out what the problem was.

[ - ] Thedancingsousa 2 points 3 hoursMay 17, 2025 16:26:22 ago (+2/-0)

Artix Linux. Just like distros let you pick a DE flavor it lets you pick an Init flavor. So there is a grid. Pick your DE. Pick your init.

I use XFCE and OpenRC.

It's as easy to install as Ubuntu. Much easier to have lastest and greatest software. It's criminal how far behind Ubuntu is on Qbittorrent, NodeJS, Python. Ubuntu is still using python 2, WTF.

Arch based distros like Artix just install the lastest stable release from the devs, on every package. It's that simple.

On their homepage I am greeted with a slogan "proudly anti-fascist"

Why are Linux faggots so gay.

[ - ] No_way_oy_vey 0 points 7 minutesMay 17, 2025 19:25:32 ago (+0/-0)

Linux is being taken over by judaized faggots, anyone whos been following for a while has seen the signs.

I still use linux, Void Linux in particular, no systemd. Good enough for me for now. Maybe one day I'll try OpenBSD, I hear thats where all the white/asian greybeard devs are at. Thats OPEN-BSD, NOT FREE-bsd. FreeBSD is supposed to be full of judaized faggot devs too.

Honestly, the prospect of computing is getting worse and worse over time. Its becoming increasingly necessary to use, increasingly gay, the jews have probably pozzed backdoors at the hardware level in almost everything now, Intel M.E., AMD PSP, etc.

We're allowing them to continue unopposed in this technology takeover and that is one of the main reasons why we're running out of time. We can't sit idly by while they slip technological nooses around our necks, and our people continue to dwindle...

Deal with Systemd and use zorin

[ - ] TheNoticing 0 points 4 hoursMay 17, 2025 15:20:51 ago (+0/-0)

I liked Zorin, but had difficulty downloading some games, so tried Garuda but the store never worked, and ended up on Nobara.

MX Linux is one which is said to be without System d, but it may have changed since I've checked. There are a few more, including one version of Mint, Devuan[sp?], I think.

Stop the toxic relationship and the rationalisation.

Just switch to Linux.

Quit being the perpetual victim.
