...there were a network of local mechanics that could buy parts, preferably aftermarket, and repair it. I think they decided people don't like car dealerships, and we don't, but they provide a freakin' service. And at least a place of last resort to go bitch if your vehicle won't function.

To have no dealership and the only people that can work on the thing are the people that built it seems like a racket and a situation in which you the consoomer have no advocate whatsoever.
