No Catbox - DENIED! Need Help From Voats Computer Autists. "

submitted by beece to TellUpgoat 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 13:04:48 ago (+5/-0)     (TellUpgoat)

I'm receiving an error message with both Brave and Firefox on my home computer which will not allow catbox to load.

Brave message is: "Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from files.catbox.moe (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID"

Firefox:
"Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue

Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to files.catbox.moe because this website requires a secure connection.

What can you do about it?

files.catbox.moe has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem."

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/secure-connection-failed-firefox-did-not-connect?as=u&utm_source=inproduct

Using a private window with Tor and Duckduckgo gets the same: "Error 1020 Ray ID: 6cb7d7250b040bf1 • 2022-01-10 18:06:38 UTC
Access denied
What happened?
This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks."

I am running Linux Mint on one hard drive and Ubuntu on the other so I can dual boot, same same on both. My phone is able to load Catbox.moe normally both browsers. I have upgraded Mint, checked that my date and time are correct, and cleared cookies and cashe.

Any help with this?

Use a real browser. Install Waterfox.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 2 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 13:20:52 ago (+2/-0)

Or Pale Moon if you prefer a more traditional UI (Waterfox's can be tweaked with some effort, though). Both are great forks.

If you are a faggot who liked the Australis UI, then the Basilisk fork is for you.

Or Brave. SOBRAVE!

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 1 point 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 19:45:23 ago (+1/-0)

brave's latest update uses too much memory to play video and now the shitcoin BAT has proven to be a scam.

don't suggest people to use Chrome. Because that's what Brave is. It is Chrome(ium) with a built in adblocker, for retards too retarded to install an adblocker. Chromium is built from the ground up to fingerprint and identify users, no skin will change that.

Thanks @MuricaPersonified, I've been happy with both Brave and Firefox. If I can't figure this out I'll try Palemoon, however, I suspect the same shit will likely occur. I'd rather figure out what is occuring.

All three of those browsers are Firefox ports, so they should feel familiar. Have you tried accessing catbox via proxy/VPN? It's unlikely, but possible your ISP is blocking it. Are you able to add exceptions?

[ - ] beece [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 22:38:59 ago (+0/-0)

Tried that and was unsuccessful.

I can get catbox via my ISP on my phone with both Brave and Firefox for android. So the ISP isn't blocking it.

@MuricaPersonified - I downloaded/installed Pale Moon, and I am on it right now. Catbox gets the same stuff: "This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Pale Moon to connect securely to files.catbox.moe, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue."

It's weird that you're not getting options to add certificate exceptions in any of your browsers. Have you tried VPN or proxy yet? I'm really curious about that.

[ - ] beece [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 12, 2022 08:51:23 ago (+0/-0)

Yup, downloaded protonVPN and also tryed your free link (thanks!). Both unsuccessful.

@rage - I use to use Waterfox before they sold to System1, an ad company. I moved on when Alex did as I have no trust in System1. I didn't look into who owned System1, but I could guess. Feel free to keep using them yourself, but there's a heads up for you. https://sysdfree.wordpress.com/2020/02/19/301/

OP, I'm glad you're not retarded. I am also not retarded. I use LibreWolf.

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 13, 2022 23:25:04 ago (+0/-0)

Waterfox was purchased by an adveritsing company and literally tracks your shit. LibreWolf is the advice you should give.

It's your ISP. They've been turning off and on catbox for a while.

Once I go to my data on my phone I can see it all.

You're going to need a VPN or just your phone to view catbox links.

[ - ] ParnellsUprising 1 point 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 17:49:40 ago (+1/-0)

Yep, I have seen the same, even with vpn connections. I change the connection, and it begins to work again.

[ - ] beece [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 22:40:22 ago (+0/-0)

@ParnellsUprising How do you "change the connection"? I'm running Linux.

[ - ] ParnellsUprising 1 point 3.3 yearsJan 11, 2022 08:33:45 ago (+1/-0)

Well, when I say change the connection, I am referring to the VPN connection.

If you are using Network Manager to manage your VPNs, you can have multiple VPN connections there, which generally is advisable, at least with NordVPN, which is what I use, as sometimes they just start getting crappy, or start experiencing network issues like you are currently seeing.

So to do that, you just import the file that you use to connect with on OpenVPN into Network Manager. Pretty simple. BTW, if I am doing any kind of bittorrenting, I do not use the Network Manager, but connect via the CLI. I only use the Network Manager if I am in a graphical browser.

The same should apply to whatever VPN provider you use.

That was my first thought as well @bottled_tears, however, my phones wi-fi runs via the same ISP and the phone works.

[ - ] patchCodeUnsuccessful 2 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 13:36:59 ago (+2/-0)

what's going on is that you hit an http link from an https site.
The prime majority of browsers have implemented a security policy that makes it so that you cannot grab http content from an https site. This prevents information leakage. In general a good policy, but also a dick move to traditional webservers.

This is some shit I pulled off stack overflow
The solution that worked for me:

Go to about:config
Look for network.stricttransportsecurity.preloadlist and set it to false
Enjoy
If the above STILL DOES NOT WORK, try setting browser.fixup.fallback-to-https to false from about:config

May or may not work, I don't use firefox.

[ - ] beece [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 15:57:02 ago (+0/-0)*

Tried both @patchCodeUnsuccessful, no go. Thanks for taking a shot, it's appreciated!

[ - ] mikenigger 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 18:43:13 ago (+0/-0)

this is a stupid idea, don't disable HSTS

[ - ] patchCodeUnsuccessful 1 point 3.3 yearsJan 11, 2022 08:42:01 ago (+1/-0)

This is the mentality that has enfeebled computer science. Just because it's dumb does not mean that it's not a solution. God I miss the virus wars that fucked over my computer regularly. During that period of time you were forced to learn how to do the basics of maintaining your machine. Now I deal with too many people who don't even know where the task manager is, or how to kill a process.

Thanks @Leafa

When I go to your link while running a clean copy of Ubunto off of a USB stick in Firefox gets

@Leafa 2 things:

1st) My ISP is allowing my phone to access catbox.

2nd) Downloaded and installed via terminal the free version of ProtonVPN and I couldn't even get back to this page. LOL

Adguard offers unfiltered DNS. All Adguard DNS servers support DoT which prevents ISP from tracking which website you go to.

Is your local timestamp set correctly. I get this exact issue after a power outage and my bios battery is long gone, so I have to reset the time in my bios... then everything magicly works again...

[ - ] beece [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 16:41:30 ago (+0/-0)

@veggy - checked the bios and the clock was on the money.

Catbox works for me with the latest version of Firefox (95.0.2).

Are you using a VPN perchance?

[ - ] beece [op] 0 points 3.3 yearsJan 10, 2022 15:57:19 ago (+0/-0)*

I am not using a VPN

Agreed @blumen4alles. Yes, both Brave and Firefox on my Android phone will pull up Catbox.moe using my ISP/ home wi-fi. Strange that it does it works on the phone but not in both Ubuntu and Mint on my computer. Running a 10 year old Dell I bought used @6 months back, took off windows, added a 2TB SSD drive to the existing set up with had a 2tb drive. I run Linux Mint on one and backup/have the ability to access the 2nd older drive from Mint or I can boot to the legacy drive if I wish, which I had put Ubuntu on.

Tryed allowing "Allow Google login buttons on third party sites" in Brave settings no go.
1. Reload the Page -didn't work

2. Tryed Incognito Mode

3. Checked the Date and Time, they’re GTG

4. Cleared my Browser Cache and Cookies

5. Wifi checked and works with the phone

6. Antivirus or Firewall -Don't have, running Linux

7. Pulled up the terminal and Checked for SSH (it was there) and ran sudo ufw allow ssh in case SSH got turned off. It was fine.

8. I have a copy via timeshift. I haven't ever restored from it so I'll try it later when I get back and see if that gives me any traction.
edit to add:

9. Uninstalled/reinstalled Brave

10.Ran a fresh install that I know works of Ubuntu Linux off of a USB stick- no go

11. Timeshift did not change anything.

12. Clearing/restarting DNS cache with Linux command in terminal sudo service network-manager restart did not work. And neither did /etc/init.d/nscd restart but that was to be expected.

It's almost enough to make you wish you had Windows back. Note the word "almost". Today, catbox.moe opened with tor! 3rd time I tryed, the other two were unsuccessful. Bizarre.
