Teach your kids how to use tools.

Also, in a situation like this, teach your kids to put the board on the floor and start the nails. Then lift the board into place and finish hammering the nail.

It'll be easier for the kiddo to start the nail, and they'll be less likely to hammer their fingers.

They seem to lack the needed "horsepower" to do complex calculations, like how big that nail is compared to what he's doing, or that the stupid stick isn't going to hang straight with a giant diagonal board there. They lack a sense of physical space, which requires a little of the mathematical brain bits.

The most complex math they seem to do is amortization. Everything else is hiding their crimes behind bullshit.
