My Volkswagen Tiguan Rental is SHIT

I have a Volkswagen Tiguan as a rental. After ramming some mexican road raging faggot.

Its fucking shit.

God damn this car pisses me off.

It has fucking lane assist on all the time. I turn it off, it turns back on, there's no way to turn it off manually.

I want to swap a lane without a signal? It fights me. SO UNSAFE.

If I put my windows down, it gives me eco tips to roll my windows up to stop wind resistance.

It beeps all the time at stupid shit.

Did you know, Lane Keeping Assist is listed as one of the 11 car safety systems to be made mandatory in the EU?

Forced lane assist is fucking gay. The only time to use lane-assist is if you're drunk and a cop is following you or if you want to reach for something.

My old 2008 very well looked after car serves me great and I have no plans on ever buying a modern car. All modern cars are pieces of shit. My old girl 166000 miles on her still keeps rolling well with zero mechanical issues.

Nice, mine is a little 1.5 turbo diesel, 65-73mpg on a run driven between 60-70mph in the summer, not as good in the winter, 50 around town in winter.

2.0L gas turbo (Ecoboost)...not nearly as good as your mileage, but for a full size car and my heavy acceleration, 26-30mpg is not too shabby.

I turn the fucker off, 1 minute latter it turns on, ITS SO FUCKING ANNOYING

AND THE REVERSE CAMERA GETS STUCK. IF I REVERSE I HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE OR I HAVE REVERSE CAM ON ALL THE TIME.

There should be a button for the camera issue, by the shifter. If I recall it has the parking “P” and a camera on it.

Yes it always turns off. I don't mind that. I go to neutral and shut off my engine at long stoplights manually.

What I do mind with the auto stop shit, and it happens on all cars, is when it refuses to kick in when I actually want it to turn on.

should be another button with the start button for that that lets you switch off the auto ignition.

i gotta say, i absolutely hated the idea of push button start, push button brake, and fucking... flat cheap tablets stuck to a cheap dashboard like an afterthought. i actually find a fully moulded dash for a car kind of comforting. Some of the new cars look like osmeones gone 'oh shit, forgot the radio, what do? eh... put it there' points and you end up with what looks like someones just superglued a tablet to the nearest free ledge near the middle of the car.

again, the merc, had like... a long tablet dashboard all the way to middle of car that was in like... 2 bits... but the lcd customisable dash... yeah... very very cool, especially when you can have your nav stuff right in the middle of your dials, then the middle one either goes radio or you can bring up extra car data. (that was in... CLA200, GLA200, A250) which had base trim. but mercedes actually put a bit more thought into it and the way theyve placed them, a few buttons and shit, and some cool lookingvents and these LED strip lights everywhere... its actually very fun. fuckin spaceship.

C200 i had for a few weeks, had a slightly better trim, had single tablet for dashboard but this fuckin hyuuuuuuuuge one in the middle like tesla does, very pretty very responsive... BUT....
the extra buttons they added for the bigger tablet, were utterly cheap plastic shit that shifted around (and the damn driver seat had 3 loose bolts)

biggest issue i had was playing with flappy paddle stuff. i live literally on the border of suburban and country/mountain, so between say, pulling out of a petrol station or small intersection in first, and having to shift to second while in a full lock turn, and not having to shift for 10 minutes and forgetting its in manual... flappy paddles are actually kind of fuckin stupid.

Now i dont have to worry again, im back to being a fffffuckin pleb in a Ford Fairmont far more appropriate for my job and pay grade. its just a fuckin car.

GLA200 is literally the most pointless fucking car i have ever driven. the only possible reason you could have for buying one is because your wife wont shut the fuck up about billys dad buying billys mum a brand new BMW, and at least if you get the 4matic SUV it will run over more kids before it comes grinding to a halt and she wont be able to see the gore because the fuckin things too high, and your dumb ass cant say no. Utterly shit.

A250... most fucking fun ive ever had on the road. 8 speed awd 2l turbo. hated handing the keys over. but back in my own wheels again so meh.

Starting the engine is something 90% of engine wear. Not to mention it uses more fuel to start an engine than it does to let it idle for 10 minutes.

I only rent full size trucks or SUVs, for safety and comfort. Fuck mileage and price. It’s what I drive at home, why would I downgrade when I travel?
Edit: Point is, they don’t have as much of this crap, the American trucks that is, and you can turn most of it off.

kia ceratos i was driving for a while did the same thing it was an absolute cunt, driving down a three lane freeway, slow cunt in front of you, accellerate and go to move into the next lane and suddenly the cunt of a thing is hitting the brakes. Thankfully in the Cerato it was easily switched off.

Get too close to a centerline on a corner it tries to steer you off the fuckin road, and honestly i cant think of too many useful cases for active cruise at all, in heavy traffic youre not moving quick enough to want to not use the brakes in no traffic youre in plain old cruise.

Flipside is the Mercs that id been driving for a few months up until a couple of weeks ago actually do it pretty well, i dont recall it braking on me at all when i was trying to overtake, and you can dial back the lane keeping assist so its not too bad. What got on my tits tho was cruising along and getting this BING! all the time, and it telling me to keep my hands on the fuckin steering wheel... as if theres some kind of issue with steering with my... never mind.

Nope. If youre that blasted lane assist is kicking in youre already getting the disco lights and magic lollipop. It doesnt stop you wandering around the lane, and it jerks you back in the other direction, in the same way you would if you were like.. wasted or something.

Many of those reasons are valid but I have a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe and love the lane assist. Sure I need to put my blinker on when I change lanes, but what civilized person doesn’t?
I agree on the beeps, those are annoying. I should add the insurance to cover that brand new car costs less than my 2014 vehicle due to all the safety features. My big gripe now is subscriptions on cars. That’s a very valid complaint.
