Many skateboarders of my era myself included despises roller bladders.

We'd be posted up at a spot and some fag with roller blades would turn up. "Ya know why roller blading is harder than skatig?" They'd ask. "Right cause you can't take em off." Say. So instant disrespect and instant diminishing our feats. They were still hurt about fruit booter being their name

However the ones that rolled small wheels no safety on their blades were respected. Many crossed over to the lord and boars. They knew what they were doing and a hill could be as dangerous for them as us.

Bikers were menaces. Ya wanted then on your side but they were crazy. Arms built like legs. Pegs that destroyed ledges we skated. But they took no shit from anyone. Rob, a good friend of mine, was absolutely terrifying. He was Korean and his dad had a shack out back with his war trophies. He wouldn't say no to a fight. He'd win it too.

Skateboarding vs Capitalism.     (Skateboarding)

I'm gonna wax poetic about skating as a community and a creed and break some stuff down for folks that don't know. Yes I've been given shit for calling it a creed.

I was an early to mid 90s-2000s skateboarder. Still am but that's when I was in my prime. I was making it there getting letters about sponsor me tapes from Think and others. Really put me off frankly. I didn't want my life to turn into going to spots and producing and getting let go because it didn't work. Wasn't for me. Had a buddy riding for Osiris shoes til he blew his ACL.

Anyway the creed was:

Don't he a cunt. Calling someone a poser for trying was considered highly offensive. We all started somewhere. Teach them! Help them learn.

Race and religion were not considered. You'd have guys from Brooklyn representing Zoo York black as night hanging with pasty white boys representing Foundation wearing skinny jeans and leather jackets. Jet black dyed hair. They'd mesh together properly.

Chocolate was another diversified company. Largely sponsoring blacks and Hispanics and a few whites. But riding a chocolate deck wouldn't get you hate or cultural appropriation.

We had a common bond. Also a lot of skaters that got good came from a bit of money and a nuclear family. Decks weren't cheap even back then and I'd go through them about every week or two. Snapped noses or tails. Landing wrong in the middle. Mushing out and concave flattening due to use. Heavy pressure cracks and so on. Busting a bearing was the worst.

Lemme get to the point. Most skateboarders of my era despised modern consumption and capitalism. Try as they might Nike couldn't get a hold on the group to the point they'd mask their product with a different name. A insider would publish in Thrasher how such brand was actually Nike. Sales would extinguish and they would go away.

Therein your sponsors would show your creed. Riding for a whole lot of reputable and smaller brands? Good. Riding for Monster, Nike and so on? Extremely bad.

We actively hated competitions in the sense where it was who is better. We didn't want it to go to the Olympics. It went against everything we knew. Watching a dude try their trick for days and finally nailing it would be met by applause and smacking of wheels on pavement. Even if those watching had already mastered it. We all benefitted and the bond deepened.

We were inclined to not trust main stream media and popular products. We smelled the scent of rot from it. We didn't care for the video games and for a while Tony Hawk was vilified for THPS. It caused a bubble we all could see coming. I'm working on a fakie cab heelflip into a bs crooked grind and kids are asking me if I can do a benihana? I'd laugh tell em no. I'm not that advanced.

That game caused such a huge devastating bubble. We wrote letters to the company. Lol. They weren't gonna listen to shit.

We lived in our time. The streets were ours.

My mom would make homemade pizzas every Friday for the crew. A whole foyer of shoes. Watching skate videos on my old CRT 20" and playing GTA2.

I've lost the plot and started meandering. Point is most skaters hate Thrasher shirts being sold in the mall.

[Grip Tape](https://files.catbox.moe/2k6j1i.webp)

The deck shape is brand new. Designed by Andy. Same with the tape. The lines are there to help new skaters with where to flick to do tricks.

Said it before and I'll say it again. He's gonna be remembered as one of the best. Totally chill. Won't take his helmet off even though he's been offered more money to do so. Doesn't do well in competitions due him trying extra shit. But that's the thing. Competitions used to just be a big rally. No one cared about the medals and most of us said fuck no to the Olympics. He is that essence.

Gimme shit I don't care. I'm reading Jurassic Park. I haven't finished but I'd like to see how it was all a setup and a mind fuck. Hammond ran a flea circus where he could convince people that there were fleas there. His "dinosaurs" are bastard biological engineering but the power of persuasion makes the people think they're seeing dinosaurs. Cooked up in a lab in plastic eggs. I feel it's a real testament to what's coming. Genetic manipulation.

I remember when my family used to look at slides in the projector on Christmas Eve. Still photos my grandma couldn't recognize anymore. We did it anyway. Tradition.

I remember the roller rinks with neon light cascading to the waved hardwood floors. The smell of popcorn and coin op games like Double Dragon. The songs of the 80s.

I remembered when my folks rented a VCR and King Kong. First movie I ever saw with special effects. I remember the place long white walls and it was close to the center.

I grew up in a largely White suburban neighborhood. We had a block parties on a regular a test of mettle for the cooking men. My school was about two blocks away. We had festivals there. Cake walks and all.

I took a ring pop out to a girl I loved in elementary school. Her name was Jamie and she lived on a farm right out of town. I gave her all my cool pencils. She was a farmer girl. Tan with blonde hair.her folks owned many acres.

My buddy Eric liked what would become semi simulator but this was blocky roads and basic interface.

We had a loft for reading time. It was filled with cushions and reading was expected for at least an hour.

Thanks @system for doing this. This is the sub for skateboarding, graphics, shoes, techniques whatever. There is a creed followed by skateboarders and it's tough up until now.

I have smashed my head my hips my ankles my knees in pursuit of the finished trick. I've walked and skated with all sorts of characters.

A cool calm day was best. Late night causing the streets with their amber arc sodium lights. Meeting up with others. Talking to the hot red head to explain hidden treasures better.

Sitting with my bud on the country club Greenway. Smoking a bowl and letting the quiet breeze run over us as we looked at a farming house.

Sieg heil.

Who knows how to kickflip?

I want to create a skateboarding subverse. Site says skateboarding isn't allowed because it only takes a-z and 0-9. What the fuck.
